Obsessed with the Truth

Obsessed with the Truth

Several years ago, when Kathy and I lived in the eastern part of the United States, I picked up coffee on the way to work. The café that had the best coffee served it in cups with the slogan that said, “We are obsessed with  freshness.”  They claimed the only way to get fresher coffee was to go pick it from the plant.

Pastor Adam, the deacons, and I invested several hours casting around for a summary of what makes our church different from other churches. Why is Calvary Baptist Church important? What is our reason for existing? We decided that like this coffee shop, we are absolutely obsessed with something. We are obsessed with the Truth. Everything we do in this body of Christ is aimed at communicating the Truth.

truth1The Truth we are committed to is two-fold. First, we are committed to the unchanging Truth of God’s Word. Jesus in His prayer in John 17 asked the Father to, “Sanctify them through Thy truth, Thy word is truth.” Our eternal salvation is ours because we believe in the Truth of God’s word. It is the Word of God that becomes our life and which helps us grow up in our relationship with the living Lord Jesus. The Apostle Paul prescribed our methodology in Ephesians 4:15 “Speaking the truth in love, [we] may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ.”

Here at Calvary Baptist, we are obsessed with the Truth of God’s Word, and, secondly, we are obsessed with the Truth. This Truth is the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Truth incarnate.jesus_10948c In John 14:6, shortly before our Lord Jesus was crucified, He told His disciples about how they can get to heaven. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  Your friends here at Calvary Baptist Church are committed to proclaiming the Lord Jesus who is the Truth so others can come to God the Father through Him. Do you know Him? You can. We can show you how.
